It has been just over FOUR Weeks since Hurricane Maria struck and devastated Puerto Rico and for the majority of the island things are extremely tough and will probably be tough for quite some time. Power is still out for the vast majority of people and around 30% still do not have access to running water.
Things have also be tough for the Craft Beer Scene on the island. Immediately after Maria the Governor imposed a curfew and enacted Puerto Rico’s Ley Seca (Dry Law) which for local bars and restaurants was a punch to the stomach as they were not allowed to sell alcohol. To compound this, tourist hotels were allowed to sell alcohol; go figure.
With frustration mounting for local bar owners and breweries, the Ley Seca was lifted on September 29
With the Ley Seca lifted, craft beer could freely flow as bars and restaurants gradually started to reopen. utilising generator power and special opening times.
Puerto Rico’s Craft Beer Scene is Open for Business
Not every bar or restaurant is open but a good majority of them are, though operating hours may not be back to normal. So if you are in need of a beer, there is a good chance that your favorite bar is open and waiting for you.
Our Craft Beer Map has links (where available) to Facebook pages for various bars / restaurants around the island, so check it out and help the local Craft Beer Scene in Puerto Rico recover from Hurricane Maria
