Formula 280: A Beer Raising Awareness For Puerto Rican Craft Breweries

Formula 280 Beer Puerto RicoSeveral of Puerto Rico’s Craft Breweries have collaborated on Formula 280, with the goal to raise awareness to Project 280 of the Puerto Rico Senate.

Project 280 is a measure that will help the local Puerto Rican Breweries survive by lowering the extremely high tax that they have to pay, for every gallon of beer produced.

Currently Puerto Rico has the highest tax rate in the USA with craft breweries paying $2.55 per gallon compared to the $1.28 that is paid in Tennessee (the highest rate in the USA).

Project 280 aims to lower the tax to $0.95 per gallon, which is a similar rate to Hawaii, who pay $0.93 per gallon.

Formula 280 will be a Pilsner Style beer with an ABV of 4.5 – 5% and IBU of 25 – 35. Each Brewery will create its own interpretation of Formula 280 using 10% Carofoam or Carapils and 2 Row Pilsner. Wheat and other malts can also be added, while trying to keep to the main formula.
